Here at the Voyade, we call for the revival of the individual virtue for black men. This article is going to give you a rough outline of the self sufficiency that we're attempting to revive through our services, products, and articles.
It is our job, as black men, to educate ourselves by reading books. There are a lot of writers who speak about racial inequality. Go to your local library and check out a book about black social sciences. Recommend the book to other people. Try to reflect on these books. What does the book mean to you? Which parts of the book do you agree/disagree with? Are there any lines in the book that stood out more than others? Literature is incredibly important. During the era of slavery, black men would get killed for being literate. Society wants us to be illiterate without making it so obvious. It’s easier to manipulate people who are uneducated. This is something that we must fight against. In your spare time, reading a book to further educate yourself in matters that would help you reach your goals wouldn’t be the end of the world.
The media has a habit of portraying black men as violent, uneducated, dirty, and creepy. This is why black men have to create their own media. We need our own journals, publishing companies, tv networks, record labels, etc. This is something that will clearly take time. But this gradual change will be highly beneficial for black men who are tired of being misrepresented by the media. It’s easy to criticize the media for portraying us in a positive light. Eventually, you have to say “enough is enough” and create your own image of a black man.
This sort of ties into the “black male image” that I alluded to in the “media” portion. One problem that so many black men face is the absence of a male figure. African-American households are heavily deprived of black fathers or black male “father figures”. Studies have constantly shown that fatherless boys show a pattern of poor school performance, unemployment, prison, and violence. We plan on fighting against this cycle. Black boys need support shown from black men. Be it by family members, teachers, or even celebrities. Something as simple as support and empathy could help break this horrendous cycle.
The United States has a solid amount of HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) that we can go to-if you have any interest in college. However, we need to go further than that. We need to create more black schools in general. If any of these plans don’t fit your liking, you can always home school your child. If you’re looking to stay in the current school that you’re in, we would suggest setting your son up for programs to increase his academic achievement. Either way, the current structure of schools is in desperate need of improvement.
Black men seem to underestimate their economic value. This allows us to be manipulated by charlatans who don’t have our best interest at heart. We need to educate ourselves on business. Black men are seen as job searchers, when we should be seen as job creators. The “black dollar” is incredibly valuable. However, black wealth is ridiculously small. There are already existing black businesses out there. In this day and age, we have the internet. We have to find local black businesses to spend our money. You have to do business with your people in order for you to attain wealth. Poverty is a large factor in crime. Black businesses would be a large step in the solution.
